Current work at the cemetery

We are currently working on areas of the cemetery and crematorium to repair and improve the facilities that we offer. Some of this work may affect your visit.

More information about the work we are doing is available on our dedicated web page.

After a cremation, you have several options for the cremated remains.

If you are the applicant (the person who signs the Cremation application form) you can collect the cremated remains in person from the Crematorium.

Another person can collect the cremated remains on your behalf, but you must nominate this person on the Cremation application form.

If you have not nominated someone on the application for cremation, then they must bring a letter of authority with them, signed b you.

We can help you with the wording required for the letter of authority.

You can also ask the funeral director to collect the cremated remains from the Crematorium.

Book an appointment

If you would like to collect cremated remains, we ask that you call in advance to book an appointment. This allows us to prepare the cremated remains so they are ready for you.

To book an appointment to collect cremated remains, you can call us on 01245 605630.

When you collect the cremated remains

When you come to collect the cremated remains, you can visit our Bereavement Services Office where a member of our team will meet you.

We will ask you to sign a receipt and you will need to provide ID. Once this is complete, we will bring the cremated remains out to you, along with a Certificate of Cremation.

You must keep the certificate with the cremated remains at all times for identification purposes.

Scattering or interment of cremated remains

If you have arranged to inter or scatter the cremated remains at Chelmsford Cemetery, you will need to contact us and make an arrangement. You will need to bring the cremated remains and Certificate of Cremation with you.

If you choose to inter or scatter the cremated remains somewhere else, you don't need to arrange this with us. You will need to hand the Certificate of Cremation to the registrar of your chosen cemetery of garden of remembrance.
