Dress up and help Rose the kitchen maid. In the kitchen learn about her daily chores and handle some mystery kitchen objects before tackling the washing and maybe even meet Mr and Mrs Wells if all the work is done!

In this session, children can:

  • dress up and discover what life was like for the people who lived in Oaklands House
  • become 'object detectives’ to work out what mystery objects in the kitchen were used for
  • use washing dollies, mangles and irons in our hands-on washing role play activity
  • stay for longer and follow the ‘Key hole’ trail to discover what the house looked like when the Wells family lived here.

Stay for the day

Pick up our binoculars and a ‘picture trail sheet’ and set out to explore the whole museum and park. There is plenty to discover in the new museum displays and entry to the museum is free.

Teacher feedback

“Pupils have an understanding of what equipment was used and how much work it was to run the house. It was an amazing trip!”
